Ground Beef Products Recall Overview:

Interstate Meat Dist. Inc. has recalled 28,356 pounds of its ground beef products due to fears that the meat could be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7, the most common E. coli strain to cause severe illness in humans .
In a recall notice posted by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), the company says that the raw ground beef items were produced on Dec. 20, 2021, and shipped to retail locations in Arizona, California, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.
The ground beef packages, which were sold at stores including Walmart, Albertsons, Kroger and WinCo, have the establishment number "EST. 965" inside the USDA mark of inspection or printed next to the timestamp and use or freeze by date.

Third-Party Laboratory Discovered Contamination During Microbiological Analysis
The possible contamination was discovered by a third-party laboratory, who purchased the meat for microbiological analysis and found the sample tested positive for E. coli. FSIS says it conducted an assessment of the laboratory's accreditation and methodologies and determined the results were actionable.
It also says it is concerned that some of the meat may be in consumers' refrigerators or freezers, and it urged consumers who had purchased the products not to consume them.
"These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase," the agency says in the recall.
- coli is a potentially deadly bacterium that can cause dehydration, bloody diarrhea and abdominal cramps, the recall notice explains. While most people recover within a week, some develop a type of kidney failure called hemolytic uremic syndrome. This condition can occur among persons of any age but is most common in children under 5 years old and older adults. The agency urged anyone concerned about illness to see a healthcare provider.
In September, Dole Fresh Vegetable Inc. recalled some of its Dole Curly Leaf Parsley after samples tested positive for shiga-toxin producing E. coli, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's recall notice .
The contamination was limited to a single sample and found by the Michigan Department of Agriculture, Dole said, calling the recall "precautionary" with no illnesses reported.
